Hello! Incredibly excited to share with you my final project for the 3D Production Fundamentals Course I did at Animum Creativity Advanced School.

Between all the different choices we had, I ended up choosing this beautiful house originally created by JiaYing Liang (concept artist).

Here's a breakdown of the process I followed to transform a 2D concept art into a detailed 3D model, using Autodesk Maya, Substance Painter, and Photoshop. This project helped me sharpen my skills in modeling, texturing, UV mapping, and creating a polished final presentation.
1. The project begins by closely studying the 2D concept to understand the proportions, shapes, style, and material details. In Autodesk Maya, I started with blocking the house in order to focus on volume, scale, and structure without worrying about small details.
2. Next, I refined the model, adding architectural details like windows, beams, roof details, and props. I used bevels, extrusions, and edge loops to maintain clean geometry while enhancing detail.
3. Once the modeling was done, I organized the UVs efficiently to maximize space and minimize distortion. This step is crucial for ensuring that textures apply correctly.
4. With the model imported into Substance Painter, I baked the high-poly details onto the low-poly mesh. Then, I used procedural materials and hand-painted touches to give wood grain, paint chips, stone, and weathering effects that matched the cartoon style of the concept art.
5. After rendering the model using Arnold, I brought the final 4k images of the different AOVs into Photoshop for color correction, adding subtle effects like depth of field, lighting enhancements, and even stylized overlays to match the 2D art’s mood.
This project helped me understand the entire 3D production pipeline, from concept to final render. It was a great exercise in balancing artistic vision with technical skills, and I can’t wait to tackle more complex scenes next!
Finally, I would like to thank Henry Castro for being my tutor and giving me constructive feedback while also providing useful tips and tricks every week. https://www.artstation.com/henrycastro
